To the Moon and Back: Celestial Chic

By Sophie Cappell

This week marks the arrival of the most famous full moon of the year: the Harvest Moon. The moon, as the ultimate symbol of femininity, signifying wisdom, intuition, and spiritual connection, is undeniably romantic and has us thinking about stellar themes in bridal fashion. The celestial bridal look is an offshoot of the boho-chic styles we saw so much of this spring and summer. Shrouded in mystery and symbolism, celestial bridal fashion is perfect for winter nuptials.

From stunning lace to beautiful beading, satin, sequins, and blues, celestial wedding dresses are feminine and romantic. Designer Stella York described her new collection, which is heavily ethereal, saying, “We’re incorporating intricate beadwork, delicate pearl embellishments, shimmering lace, and glittery tulle for the bride who isn’t afraid of the spotlight.”

Other designers, including Ines De Santo and House of Idan, have incorporated heavily celestial features and starry motifs throughout their new collections. These pieces include pale blue satins, intricate lace, and heavy shimmer, invoking images of starry night skies and the moon.

Zodiac-themed jewellery  has been everywhere over the last few years, from high-street brands to top-end jewelers. Stars signify guidance, hope, fertility, and eternity, making them the perfect marital emblem. Gemstones themselves have long been imbued with celestial symbolism, as they are believed to possess the powers of the moon or the stars.

Jeweler Selim Mouzannar’s Istanbul Star Ring collection perfectly manifests everlasting love and can be made in a variety of gemstones, allowing couples to choose their own birthstones for a more bespoke touch. Liberty’s Lanthe Star Ring offers a chic alternative to traditional wedding bands and gem settings, perfect for the modern couple.
