In May 2024, Skydiamond, the world’s first carbon-negative diamond producer, announced the release of its next drop in collaboration with supermodel, environmental activist and actress, Lily Cole. Drawing influences from Mother Earth and the Gaia theory, a scientific viewpoint that presents the world as a self-regulating system, the designs are a stunning interpretation of the ancient philosophy that everything is connected.
“We must never forget we are entangled with the planet.” Lily Cole
Each uniquely crafted piece features a dark black rhodium spherical globe, revealing a sparkling marquise-cut Skydiamond at its core, mounted in gleaming recycled 18-carat gold. Their bold, sculptural formations will spark conversation and some could say they resemble a symbolic evil eye, reminding us all to play our important part in protecting Mother Earth from further harm.
When designing the collection, Lily drew inspiration from the Swedish artist Hilma af Klint, and this contemporary geometric style perfectly complements the impactful placement of each Skydiamond. The precious jewels are set upside down inside rhodium orbs, echoing the black of the carbon while highlighting the inner sparkle to promise a better tomorrow.
“The colours play on the implicit duality in my name: hard black coal alongside delicate white lilies.” Lily Cole
The complete Gaia collection consists of nine stunning pieces including earrings, pendant necklaces, rings and a body chain which can be worn over clothes or revealed underneath. Their minimalist yet striking appearance will enhance any date night, wedding guest or special occasion look, whether you prefer to pair your outfit with a delicate chain necklace and drop earrings or the chunkier satin cord choker and stud earrings to add a little drama.
Skydiamond’s founding philosophy focuses on innovation over abstention, offering jewellery lovers a better alternative that captures the heart and works in harmony with the planet. Created through a pioneering production process at their sustainably powered SkyLab in Gloucestershire, these diamonds are formed from CO2, and the natural elements of wind, sun and rain. This is modern alchemy at its finest, creating something beautiful while cleaning the skies.
