Rebecca and Jeffrey wanted nothing more than to celebrate love in the place they feel their most relaxed and at home in and that is amidst the romantic mountain ranges of Switzerland in the picturesque city of Lucerne. “My parents have spent a lot of time in Switzerland since I was young. They have a house about five minutes away from the wedding venue. While we were dating, Jeff and I would fly over to visit my parents every summer and explore. I’m happy to say that Jeff loves this beautiful mountainous hidden gem of a country just as much as my family and I do. It had always been my dream to get married there, and thankfully Jeff and his family loved the idea,” the bride shares with a smile.
Among the plethora of breathtaking venues around the blissful area, our couple was looking for a beautiful location but also spacious enough to host their American-size guest list and that’s when they set their eyes on the lake-front Park Hotel Vitznau, once upon a time an elegant castle. The hotel also married the theme perfectly. “My vision was blue hydrangeas and white roses! My very talented wedding florist, Tabea Maria-Lisa, tweaked and embellished my ideas and created the most precious whimsical garden for our ceremony.”
Despite the challenges of planning a destination wedding, the couple maintained their dream of having one, never abandoning their romantic vision of hosting 82 of their loved ones enveloped by the shores of Lake Lucerne. “I clearly could not be physically part of every step of the planning. I needed to have a wedding planner who was not only very organised but also someone who I fully trusted. Valerie understood my goals for this wedding and communicated with me every step of the way so I didn’t feel too far removed from the planning process,” says the bride.
The bride had an absolute blast finding her wedding attire. “I fell in love with the Berta collections online, so I did some searching and I found a store in Miami that carried the designer. Five bridesmaids and I piled into my SUV and drove an hour and a half for a Berta Trunk Show at Chic Parisien in Miami. We had such a fun day shopping together and I was lucky enough to find my wedding dress!”
There was a huge nod to the Swiss theme, from stationery to the formal sit-down dinner. “Our colour palette honoured the charming Swiss backdrops and our stationery had illustrations of the nearby area for our guests. Even our welcome dinner featured incredible Swiss yodelers and alpine horns,” reminisces the couple.
