A Limassol Love Letter: Royal Apollonia Travel Review

An itinerary of sun-drenched days and enchanting moonlit nights unfolded at the Royal Apollonia Limassol, a destination designed for those craving winter sunshine and romance.

Words by Callum Topazio

With a name that pays homage to Apollo, the Greek god of the sun, the Royal Apollonia Limassol is the perfect balmy retreat for honeymooners seeking year-round scorching temperatures and endless summer skies. This five-star jewel in the Louis Hotels’ crown offers a privileged beachfront setting for guests, combining the very best of a Cypriot getaway in one pretty package. Nestled in the heart of cosmopolitan Limassol, the recently renovated resort champions luxury, elegance and comfort with a brand-new look tailored to the modern-day traveller.

From the alluring curves of the outdoor pool to the rippling waves of the sapphire ocean, every shape and colour of the Royal Apollonia entices you to dive into its embrace. The hotel is a dream for water babies as we drifted between the glistening outdoor pool, the tranquil warmth of the heated indoor retreat, and the graceful beckon of the Mediterranean Sea just steps from our plush sun lounger. Plus, the Indigo swim-up bar is the ideal spot to beat the heat with refreshing cocktails or a superfruit smoothie to quench your cravings. Sun, sea and cocktails all within metres of your lounger? You couldn’t ask for a dreamier way to spend your honeymoon days.

Of their 204 stunning rooms, including 13 suites, we were lucky enough to sojourn in the deluxe room, complete with that all-important sparkling sea view. A serene, minimalist design washes over the space, inviting pure relaxation after sun-soaked adventures. As twilight drapes itself over the horizon, there is no better way to unwind than with a chilled glass of fizz on your private balcony, all serenaded by the lull of the waves. Thoughtful touches such as a plush bathrobe, cosy slippers, a mini bar brimming with delights, and a welcome treat of fresh fruit and bubbles will all transform your room into a home from home.

No visit is complete without indulging your senses at The Royal Spa. This sanctuary of calm and serenity is the perfect oasis to practice mindfulness and relaxation, a state of being essential to the psyche following the stresses of wedding planning. From first glance, the spa welcomes you into a soothing space, built with stone and wood décor for a cocoon of calm. Their range of treatments can be tailored to your needs, whether it is to revive tired skin with a high-tech facial or sink into their unique warm shell massage; the award-winning Germaine De Capuccini and Dead Sea Premier products provide the best results. Finish up your wellness journey with a dip in the indoor pool, sweat it out in the sauna or steam room and take a trip to the Climatological Dead Sea Room to ensure you leave in a totally soothed state.

Enjoy generous buffets, live cooking and specialities for a taste of the island, all complemented by a chic setting and large sunny terrace for a serving of panoramic ocean views alongside your meal. The Luna Lounge & Terrace is another highlight at the hotel, allowing you to sink into a sumptuous sofa with your morning coffee or venture out onto the terrace with an evening cocktail in the moonlight. Alati Greek Flavours was a favourite during our stay, from the laidback Aegean décor to the authentic Grecian tastes, every meal here was a treat from start to finish. Feast on the freshest of ingredients with crunchy Mykonian Salads, tasty seafood delights and salty bites that hit different after a dip in the sea. For a sexy date night, lovers must flock to Akakiko Japanese, a foodie favourite that serves authentic Asian cuisine with flavours that will blow your mind. All of your senses will be indulged, from the pleasing presentation of each dish, the aromas of ramen and teppanyaki and the delicious tastes of katsu and hoisin. My personal picks? You have to try the flavoursome chicken gyozas, spicy tomyam seafood soup and hearty beef tagliatelle, every bite is a moment to be savoured.
